Department Structure
Currently, our police force consists of:
· 23 sworn full-time officers
· Several part-time and reserve officers
· Dedicated civilian personnel
This team works tirelessly to provide professional and personalized police service to our residents 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Leadership and Innovation
Under the leadership of Chief Pedro “Pete” Delgado, the WMPD is continually enhancing and establishing innovative programs to offer superior police service and protection. Our commitment to community policing is at the forefront of everything we do.
Community Services
1. Home Security Program
o House Checks: When residents are away, our officers conduct multiple daily checks on their homes.
o Security Surveys: Upon request, our detectives perform in-depth home security assessments, providing written reports with recommendations.
2. Public Safety Initiatives
o Vehicle Equipment Verifications: Random checkpoints to ensure compliance with driver's licenses, vehicle insurance, and equipment regulations.
3. Community Engagement
o Bicycle Patrol Unit: Officers regularly patrol the community on bicycles, fostering closer interactions with residents.
o Speed Enforcement: Our radar signs not only inform motorists of their speed but also collect data to improve traffic law enforcement.
4. Emergency Response Our department is equipped and trained to handle a wide range of emergencies, from natural disasters to critical incidents. We work closely with other local and state agencies to ensure a coordinated response when needed.
5. Youth Programs We offer various programs aimed at fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and local youth, including school visits, safety education, and mentorship opportunities.
